THE BIG SQUEEZE HEADLINES FIELD OF 13 FOR THE 12TH RUNNING OF THE GLENEAGLE STAKES (GR.IIR. – F)

D” Boyz Syndicate’s THE BIG SQUEEZE, winner of the St. Ann’s Stakes (GR.IR. – F) in 2011 and who finished third in the Midsummer Classic (GR.IR) in her last start, will go to the post as the firm favourite in the 12th running of the $150,000.00 Gleneagle Stakes (GR.IIR. – F) feature event on the Arima Race Club’s eight race programme on Saturday July 7, 2012.

The Michael Carew Jr. trained Big Country 3-year-old filly closed like a runaway train in the “Midsummer” making up all of 8 lengths in the final furlong of that 1900 metres event to finish a length behind the boys ONETOKEEP and BIG THING.

With no such competition this time around and although the distance is reduced to 1750 metres the Squeezed Moment by Freshly Squeezed offspring should have no difficulty staying closer to the pace before making her move in the straight under former champion and veteran reinsman Nobel Abrego.

Of the remaining 12 declared starters CHARMING LASS, HERALD ANGEL, LADY ANGELICA, CONSIDERITDONE, DEVIKA RANI and NAUGHTY N NICE could all be afforded a chance as possible upsetters.

CHARMING LASS, trained by champion John O’Brien and owned by Cecil Camacho broke her maiden first time of asking over 1100 metres on May 19, 2012 in a maiden special weight 3-year-old contest and followed that up with a 3rd place finish 3 weeks later in a 3-year-old non-winners of 2 races lifetime race over 1200 metres beaten by FREE PASSAGE and LADY ANGELICA.

The A Great Team out of Latonia by Footloose chestnut filly should have few problems stretching out to 1750 metres and also should show considerable improvement this being her third career start. Champion jockey Brian Boodramsingh has the call.

LADY ANGELICA is among the most experienced in the group having started 8 times for trainer John O’Brien and owners the Raroma Stable.

She has been around two turns only once in her career and that was in the Easter Guineas (GR.IR.) when fading from making the early running to finish 8th beaten 6 lengths by UNQUESTIONABLE.

These fillies are obviously a weaker bunch and she could surprise by trying to make all the running under perennial champion jockey Brian Harding.

CONSIDEITDONE’S only win was at 1750 metres and this came on her 7th career start on May 12, 2012. She failed against older horses in her next start on June 19, 2012 in a 55 – 35 rating group race over 1300 metres beaten 9 lengths by PRIVATE MARSHALL and based on those performances she should be a longshot to bring home the spoils.

HERALD ANGEL, owned and trained by Kenny DeSilva Jr. after ditching her rider on the 2nd and 3rd starts of her career has turned in two very good performances since that both over 1750 metres.

She finished 2nd to CONSIDEITDONE on May 12, 2012 beaten all of 6 ¼ lengths by the Shivam Maharaj owner, Derick Mosca trained filly and then returned on June 9, 2012 to place 3rd beaten

2 ¾ lengths by VICE MINISTER and DEVIKA RANI.

She will renew rivalry with DEVIKA RANI on similar terms and will have to step up her game if she is to get the better of the Harriram Gobin conditioned filly as that was only her second start.

The David Ojar owned, trained and bred NAUGHTY N NICE scored a narrow victory when last at the races on May 30, 2012 breaking her maiden by a head defeating veteran maiden CORDELL WALKER over 1350 metres.

Her two previous races were at 1200 metres and 1100 metres respectively and the fact that she got up in the nick of time over 1350 metres obviously means she should enjoy a distance of ground and the only question is whether or not she has improved enough to topple this field.

THE BIG SQUEEZE is no doubt the class horse in this Grade Two “Fillies Classic” but when all is said and done she will have to put her best foot forward to succeed as the expected favourite.
